In this paper, I first examine how the expression ‘yo-wo-kome-te’ originated in a conversation between Sei-Shonagon\nand FUJIWARA Yukinari. The conversation between the two developed in the form of Yukinari pretending to be a poet of the later dynasty, and Sei-Shonagon taking advantage of his pretensions but criticizing his untruthfulness.\nI have shown that Sei-Shonagon's expression ‘yo-wo-kome-te’ is based on the premise that Yukinari left Sei-Shonagon before one o'clock in the morning. Then, I discussed the examples of the use of ‘yo-wo-komete’ in \"The Pillow Book\" up to the same period, and showed that the interpretation of ‘all night long’ is unjustified.
